The Sidebar Reviews extension is currently installed manually using your browser’s Developer Mode. Developer Mode allows the browser to load an extension directly from a folder instead of an extension store.
Before You Begin
- Download the Sidebar Reviews extension ZIP file here.
- Open your Downloads folder.
- Right-click the ZIP file and select “Extract All.”
- Choose a permanent location for the extracted folder.
Do not try to install the ZIP file itself. You must select the extracted folder containing the extension files. Do not move or delete this folder after installing the extension.
To Install on Google Chrome
- Open Google Chrome.
- Enter the following address in the address bar:
chrome://extensions - Turn on “Developer mode” using the switch in the upper-right corner.
- Click “Load unpacked.”
- Select the extracted Sidebar Reviews extension folder.
- Click “Select Folder.”
The Sidebar Reviews extension should now appear on the Extensions page and show as enabled.
To keep the extension visible:
- Click the puzzle-piece Extensions icon near the Chrome address bar.
- Find “Sidebar Reviews.”
- Click the pin icon beside it.
To Install on Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Enter the following address in the address bar:
edge://extensions - Turn on “Developer mode.”
- Click “Load unpacked.”
- Select the extracted Sidebar Reviews extension folder.
- Click “Select Folder.”
The Sidebar Reviews extension should now appear on the Extensions page and show as enabled.
After Installation
Refresh any webpages that were already open before installing the extension. You may also need to approve any browser permissions requested by the extension.
Click the Sidebar Reviews extension icon to open or activate it.
Installing an Updated Version
When a new version is available:
- Download and extract the updated extension files.
- Replace the files in your existing Sidebar Reviews extension folder.
- Return to
chrome://extensionsoredge://extensions. - Find Sidebar Reviews and click the Reload button.
If the updated extension does not load correctly, remove the old extension and use “Load unpacked” to select the new folder.
Troubleshooting
The browser says the manifest file is missing:
You selected the wrong folder. Select the folder that directly contains the manifest.json file.
The extension stopped working after the folder was moved:
Return to the Extensions page, remove the extension, and load it again from its new location.
Developer Mode is unavailable:
Your browser may be controlled by an employer, school, or other organization that has disabled developer extensions.
The extension is installed but does not appear:
Open the browser’s Extensions menu and pin Sidebar Reviews to the toolbar.
The extension does not work on an open webpage:
Refresh the page after installing or reloading the extension.
